A very special track guaranteed to raise the dead and make them dance right back into their graves.
“Mambo Loco” is steeped in magik and mystery and contains utterly superb playing from some magnificent musicians from far flung corners including Peru, Venezuela – including legendary harpist Carlos Orozco who Bobby Lee met surfing – and Cornwall no less.
Bobby Lee Lucas is a renaissance man when it comes to music, having enjoyed a career spanning almost 30 years as low end theorist for too many legendary musicians to mention. He excels at laying down the low, lazy grooves on his main instrument, the bass guitar.
The rolling bass figure on this track carries the entire production and injects a mischievous 12/8 feel into what could otherwise be a classic Mambo. Fender Rhodes, acoustic guitar, harp and ARP synth all have their place, as well as some other rather special other ingredients.
Don’t forget what they say in El Barrio: “Donde pongo el ojo pongo la bala”.
